Thailand launches a $150 million project to help 40,000 rice farmers adopt climate-smart practices, reducing emissions and boosting resilience.
The Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) and GIZ have launched a THB 5.3 billion initiative to help 40,000 Thai rice farmers adopt climate-smart practices, funded by the Green Climate Fund, Germany’s BMZ, and private partners.
Running from 2023 to 2028 across 21 provinces, the project aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, boost climate resilience, and improve farmer incomes.
It offers a Climate-Smart Incentive with up to THB 1,600 per rai and a THB 5 billion low-interest loan program to support adoption of water-saving, low-emission farming technologies, addressing climate threats to Thailand’s rice sector.
