Senator Tillis demands DHS release detailed data on Charlotte border operation, citing concerns over U.S. citizens wrongly detained.

North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis is demanding detailed records from the DHS on the November U.S. Border Patrol operation in Charlotte, known as “Operation Charlotte’s Web.” In a letter to Secretary Kristi Noem, Tillis seeks encounter-level data on the operation, including use of force, number of U.S. citizens detained, justification for stops, total detentions, and criminal histories of those arrested. While supporting the arrests of immigrants with criminal records, Tillis raised concerns over reports of U.S. citizens being wrongfully detained or harmed. Federal officials have released minimal information, naming only a few individuals from hundreds arrested. The request comes ahead of Noem’s March 3 Senate Judiciary Committee testimony.
