Rev Richard Kerr elected new moderator of Presbyterian Church in Ireland after tied vote, succeeding Dr Richard Murray.
Rev Richard Kerr, minister at Templepatrick Presbyterian Church in County Antrim, has been elected as the new moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland after a tied vote requiring a second round—the first since 2014.
He succeeds Rt Rev Dr Richard Murray and will be installed in June.
A former missionary in Malawi and grandfather of four, Kerr acknowledged past safeguarding failures, including the resignation of former moderator Trevor Gribben, and pledged to rebuild trust through humility and service.
His appointment marks the 26th moderator from County Antrim and the 180th since the church’s founding in 1840.
