Ohio voters can repeal SB 56, which bans most hemp intoxicants and restricts cannabis, after 248,000 signatures were certified.
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost has certified a petition to repeal Senate Bill 56, allowing Ohioans for Cannabis Choice to collect over 248,000 valid signatures to place a referendum on the November ballot.
The law, signed by Governor Mike DeWine, bans most intoxicating hemp products like THC and CBD beverages and imposes new restrictions on adult-use cannabis, including rules on edibles storage and possession of out-of-state purchases.
Yost’s certification confirms the petition’s language is fair but does not judge its constitutionality.
The referendum is opposed by some cannabis groups who say it’s backed by hemp industry interests.
The law is set to take effect in March.
