Norway rejects monarchy abolition despite scandal-linked drop in support.
Norway’s parliament has overwhelmingly rejected a proposal to abolish the monarchy, with 141 members voting to retain it and 26 in favor of a republic.
The decision comes amid heightened scrutiny over Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s past connections to Jeffrey Epstein and her son Marius Borg Høiby’s trial on 38 charges, including rape.
Despite a drop in public support for the monarchy to 61%, a majority still favor its continuation, citing stability and unity.
A constitutional change would require a supermajority in two separate votes, making it unlikely.
