Northern is offering up to 18 three-year engineering apprenticeships for individuals aged 15 or older, requiring applicants to turn 16 by September 1, 2026, and hold five GCSEs including maths, English, and science.
The programme combines classroom learning at Myerscough College in Preston with hands-on training at TrainCare centres in Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, or Barrow-in-Furness, leading to a nationally recognized Level 3 Engineering and Rolling Stock Qualification.
About 90% of apprentices are offered permanent roles.
The initiative supports Northern’s fleet of over 370 trains across northern England and aims to build skilled talent in a safety-critical industry.
