Newcastle will host Game I of the 2026 women's State of Origin series on April 30 at McDonald Jones Stadium, marking the first time the event is held in the city.
Tickets go on sale Thursday at 10 a.m. and are expected to sell quickly, following two previous sellouts despite poor weather.
The 30,000-capacity venue drew over 27,000 fans in 2024 and nearly 22,000 in 2025, reflecting strong local support.
Officials and players, including NSW captain Yasmin Meakes, praised the city’s passionate fan base and growing reputation as a hub for women’s rugby league.
The series continues in Brisbane on May 14 and the Gold Coast on May 28.
Newcastle also secured the inaugural NRLW Magic Round, upcoming Rugby League World Cup matches, and will host men’s and women’s Rugby Union World Cup games in 2027 and 2029.
