Kenya recovers 0.79 acres of illegally allocated public land in Machakos, worth $380K, after a court voided private titles.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has recovered 0.79 acres of public land in Machakos town, valued at about Ksh50 million, after a court ruled the 1990s allocation to private individuals was illegal.
The land, originally reserved for the Ministry of Health, was unlawfully subdivided and transferred, with one parcel housing a government pool house.
A January 2026 court ruling canceled the title held by Joseph Mutuku Muia and ordered the land returned to the government, affirming that public land cannot be privately alienated.
The EACC is also recovering other public assets across three counties, totaling around Ksh363 million.
