Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman’s office has formally opposed Kentucky Power’s proposed 15% rate hike, calling it unfair and unreasonable.
The AG’s office cited high existing rates and above-average energy use leading to disproportionately high bills, and challenged the company’s claim of low earnings, noting consistent profits and record earnings at its parent company, AEP.
The office urged the Kentucky Public Service Commission to reject or reduce the increase, recommending the elimination of a proposed tiered rate structure, ending cost-raising demand-side programs, and conducting an independent audit.
A final decision is expected by March 1.
