India approved 10 semiconductor projects worth $19 billion, boosting chip production and tech education.
The Indian government has approved 10 semiconductor projects under the Semicon India Programme, with a total investment of Rs 1.6 lakh crore and a government outlay of Rs 76,000 crore.
The projects include two fabrication plants and eight packaging units focused on CMOS, Silicon Carbide, and advanced packaging technologies, with pilot production underway in four units.
The initiative supports 24 startup-led chip design projects, 16 of which have completed tapeouts, and provides design tools to 350 universities for 65,000 engineers.
The India Semiconductor Mission oversees the program, with international collaborations involving companies like Micron and Renesas.
Meanwhile, India’s IT sector revenue reached $283 billion in 2024–25, according to NASSCOM, as growth expands beyond major cities.
