Gyles Brandreth's grandson Kitt beat rare childhood cancer after treatment at Great Ormond Street Hospital, now inspiring support for a new children’s cancer center.
Gyles Brandreth shared that his grandson Kitt was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare childhood cancer, at 15 months in April 2017, calling it a “shock to the system” as he associated cancer with older adults.
The lump found during a diaper change led to treatment at Great Ormond Street Hospital, where Kitt underwent chemotherapy, blood transfusions, and faced serious complications including veno-occlusive disease.
Brandreth praised the hospital’s care and support staff for helping maintain normalcy, noting Kitt achieved remission in November 2017 and has remained cancer-free for eight years.
He now supports GOSH Charity’s campaign to build a world-leading Children’s Cancer Centre, highlighting the need for more advanced pediatric cancer treatments.
