Gujarat’s Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has directed district officials to begin early planning for water conservation ahead of the monsoon, urging rapid implementation of rainwater harvesting projects to maintain the state’s national leadership.
During a video conference with Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil, Patel emphasized completing all water conservation works before the monsoon, fully utilizing a ₹553 crore central grant by March 2026, and deploying ₹50 lakh per MLA for local projects.
The Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari 2.0 campaign aims to build over 10 crore water harvesting structures nationwide by May 31, 2026, with Gujarat having completed over 133,500 projects in the first phase.
Union Minister Patil praised Gujarat as a model, highlighted a 90% central cost-sharing for recharging old borewells, and encouraged NGO participation, with 40% of VB-G RAM G scheme funds available for water conservation.
