Four Cumberland and Westmorland Freemasons will sleep rough in Cumbria from February 6 to 10, 2026, in a challenge with The Rawthey Project CIC to raise awareness of homeless veterans. The three-night experience simulates real hardships, including limited phone access, no fixed address, and tasks like job applications and government appointments. Designed with input from those who’ve experienced homelessness, it highlights mental health, addiction, and financial instability. Despite UK government efforts like Op Fortitude, over 1,000 veterans are in emergency housing, with about 42 daily referrals. The event aims to build empathy and community support.
