China has launched its first large-scale domestic production line for T1000-grade high-performance carbon fiber in Datong, Shanxi, marking a major step in materials independence.
Developed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Shanxi Huayang, the facility produces 200 metric tons annually, with plans to expand to 1,000 tons.
Using a self-developed dry-jet wet spinning process, the fiber achieves exceptional strength—over five times that of steel—and is used in aerospace, defense, high-speed rail, and new energy.
With domestic demand exceeding half the global total and local production meeting over 80% of demand in 2024—projected to reach 90% by 2026—this advancement supports China’s push for energy security and technological self-reliance.
