A 38-year-old Chelmsford man, Ashley Bewick, was sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple serious sexual and violent offenses, including rape and strangulation, committed against two women starting as early as 2008.
The crimes were uncovered by Essex Police’s Adult Sexual Abuse Investigation Team, with both victims receiving support through Operation Soteria, which helps gather evidence even if prosecution isn’t immediate.
One victim, now a police officer, spoke publicly about overcoming years of silence, citing the importance of reporting.
Authorities stressed there is no time limit for reporting such crimes and that all victims are taken seriously.
