Chatham-Kent launches a two-year pilot pairing police and therapists to respond to addiction and mental health crises.
Chatham-Kent police and the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance have launched a two-year pilot program, the Mobile Addictions Response Team (MART), to better support individuals facing mental health and addiction challenges.
Funded in part by a $240,000 Ontario government grant, the team pairs a plainclothes officer with an addiction therapist from the Rapid Access Addictions Medicine Clinic to respond to calls involving substance use and mental health crises.
The initiative focuses on timely, compassionate interventions, reducing barriers to care, and providing follow-up support to connect people with long-term treatment.
By combining policing and clinical expertise, the program aims to strengthen community partnerships, address root causes of addiction, and improve outcomes for individuals and families across the region.
