A B.C. lawyer was convicted of premeditated murder for killing his client to steal $780,000 and sentenced to life in prison.
Rogelio (Butch) Bagabuyo, a former Kamloops lawyer, was convicted of first-degree murder on February 3, 2026, for the premeditated stabbing death of his client, Mohd Abdullah, in March 2022.

Supreme Court found Bagabuyo planned the killing after stealing over $780,000 meant to be hidden during Abdullah’s separation.
Evidence included a scheduled meeting email, a to-do list, purchases of a decoy tote and propane tank, and the disposal of the body in a plastic tote.
Justice Kathleen Ker ruled the crime was deliberate, rejecting claims of spontaneity, and sentenced Bagabuyo to life in prison with no parole for 25 years.
