Uttarakhand opens 83 Himalayan peaks to climbers, cuts fees, and launches online applications to boost tourism and jobs.
Uttarakhand has opened 83 Himalayan peaks, between 5,700 and 7,756 meters, to mountaineering, removing expedition fees for Indian climbers and limiting foreign fees to IMF-set levels.
The initiative, led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, aims to boost adventure tourism, create local jobs, and support sustainable development.
All applications must now be submitted via a new online system for transparency.
The move aligns with the Union Budget 2026–27’s plan to develop eco-friendly mountain trails in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir.
