A Texas man has sued Rémy Coeytaux, a doctor in California, claiming that he prescribed abortion-related pills in violation of the state's abortion drug ban. The lawsuit, which is the first known instance of a private citizen suing an abortion medication provider under Texas law, claims the doctor acted without the plaintiff's consent and seeks $100,000 in damages. The Center for Reproductive Rights and California's shield law are defending Coeytaux in the lawsuit, which tests the extent of Texas's restrictive abortion laws outside of the state. Similar attempts by Louisiana to extradite the physician were thwarted by the governor of California.
