Supreme Court grants Anupam Mittal two-week reprieve from arrest in fraud case over fake dating profile.
The Supreme Court has granted Anupam Mittal, founder of Shaadi.com, and two others a two-week reprieve from arrest in a fraud case involving a Hyderabad woman who lost ₹11 lakh to a man using a fake profile on the site.
The court overturned a Telangana High Court decision that denied Mittal’s plea to quash the case, directing the high court to reevaluate the matter on its merits.
The Supreme Court emphasized the need to examine the legal and factual basis of the charges, particularly regarding the platform’s responsibility for verifying user identities, and instructed Mittal to seek interim bail through the high court.
The case remains under review.
