A 38-year-old Singaporean, Poh Jing Yang, was sentenced to 14 months in jail and fined $6,500 for threatening family members with a pistol-shaped lighter and possessing multiple toy firearms without a license.
The February 2024 incident involved shouting threats in Hokkien and Mandarin during a dispute, prompting police to arrest him the same night and seize several toy weapons.
Though released on bail, he was rearrested in October 2024 after assembling 10 toy rifles and one airsoft rifle from online parts, linked to a reported injury.
While one charge was dismissed, the court emphasized the severity of reoffending and the large number of weapons, noting that under Singapore’s Arms and Explosives Act, any device capable of discharging projectiles is classified as a firearm.
