Pritam Singh lost his opposition leader seat in Singapore's Parliament after being deemed unfit due to a 2025 perjury conviction, with no replacement named.
Pritam Singh, leader of Singapore’s Workers’ Party, has been moved to a new seat in Parliament following his removal as Leader of the Opposition on January 15, 2026. The change, confirmed by a revised seating plan released February 3, stems from a parliamentary vote declaring him unsuitable for the role after his 2025 conviction for lying to a parliamentary committee, a decision upheld by the High Court. Deputy Speaker Christopher de Souza now occupies Singh’s former seat across from Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, while Xie Yao Quan takes de Souza’s previous position. The Workers’ Party declined the Prime Minister’s invitation to nominate a replacement, leaving the role vacant until the party chooses someone suitable.
