Codex, OpenAI's AI coding assistant, now has a stand-alone macOS app that gives developers a centralized interface to manage several AI agents concurrently across projects. Worktree integration, automated background tasks, parallel task execution, and real-time code review are all supported by the app, which also uses macOS-specific features to improve performance. It temporarily increases access for Go-tier and free ChatGPT users and doubles rate limits for paid plans. In the cutthroat market for AI development tools, the move attempts to fortify OpenAI's position against competitors such as GitHub Copilot and Anthropic's Claude Code.
