Ohio High School Athletics renamed its track championships to honor Jesse Owens, with the 2026 event held at Ohio State’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
The Ohio High School Athletic Association has renamed its track and field state championships the OHSAA Jesse Owens Track and Field State Championships, effective immediately, honoring the Cleveland East Tech graduate and four-time Olympic gold medalist.
The change, approved unanimously by the OHSAA Board of Directors, recognizes Owens’ historic achievements, including his 1936 Berlin Olympics triumph and record-setting 1935 performance at Ohio State.
The 2026 event, marking the 90th anniversary of his Olympic win, will be held June 4–7 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on Ohio State’s campus, expanding to five divisions.
The renaming is part of the “Beyond the Finish Line” initiative led by The Soul of Philanthropy Cleveland, in partnership with The Ohio State University and The Jesse Owens Foundation.
