North Carolina DMV offices revert to 8 a.m. hours Feb. 9, ending earlier openings and Saturday service after federal funding expired.
Starting Feb. 9, 2026, 90 North Carolina DMV offices will revert to standard 8 a.m. opening hours after federal ARPA SFRF funding expired, ending earlier 7 a.m. access and Saturday service.
The change affects locations across Eastern Carolina and follows a temporary measure to address high demand for driver’s licenses and IDs.
DMV Commissioner Paul Tine said extended hours may return if future funding is secured, and customers are urged to check the NCDMV website for updated hours.
