Nebraska Medicine drops lawsuit over $800M sale, aiming for June 30 closing under new governance.
Nebraska Medicine has filed to dismiss its lawsuit against the University of Nebraska Board of Regents and Clarkson Regional Health Services over an $800 million deal to transfer full ownership of the hospital.
The lawsuit, filed after the regents approved the sale and replaced the hospital’s board, questioned the transaction’s legality.
Now, the hospital seeks to move forward under a new single-member governance structure, with the deal expected to close by June 30.
Clarkson will buy its stake, donate $200 million to the university’s “Project Health” initiative, and the regents have appointed new board members supportive of the deal.
A proposed bill, LB 1125, could require legislative approval for future hospital acquisitions over $100 million and is set for a February 19 hearing.
