A man accused of dressing as a KKK member to incite racial hatred in 2024 faces court in Melbourne, with a warrant issued for his co-accused.
A 26-year-old man, Jacob Hersant, appeared in Melbourne Magistrates Court in February 2026 facing allegations of dressing as a Ku Klux Klan member and inciting racial hatred during a public incident in October 2024.
Magistrate Carolyn Burnside strongly rebuked him for his conduct, particularly after he was seen smiling during the hearing, and emphasized the harm caused by such acts in a multicultural society.
The court also issued an arrest warrant for his co-accused, Nathan Bull, who failed to appear.
Hersant sought a delay in proceedings, citing legal appointments and a pending re-sentencing.
He claimed the Klan outfit was a Halloween costume and asserted that racism is not illegal.
The case was adjourned to March 13.
