Joseph Wells of DeLand received the city’s Distinguished Citizen Service Award for intervening in a January 20 incident at a bus stop, where he stopped a man armed with a knife from attacking a 13-year-old boy.
Wells, who saw the assault while driving, made a U-turn, physically restrained the suspect, and held him until police arrived.
The suspect, Christopher Schwable, 36, was arrested and remains jailed without bond.
City officials and police praised Wells for his bravery, calling his actions crucial in preventing serious harm.
