Iraq War veteran Curt Cashour named VA chief of staff, effective mid-February 2026.
The Department of Veterans Affairs has named Iraq War veteran and Republican aide Curt Cashour as its new chief of staff, effective mid-February 2026, succeeding Chris Syrek, who is leaving for a private-sector role.
Cashour, an Army veteran with a Bronze Star and Combat Action Badge, currently serves as assistant secretary for public and intergovernmental affairs and has held key VA communications roles since 2017.
VA Secretary Doug Collins praised Syrek’s service and expressed confidence in Cashour’s leadership.
The VA is nearly fully staffed, with a search ongoing for the undersecretary for benefits position.
