Four unlinked meningococcal B cases reported in Western Australia, no outbreak, vaccines available.
Western Australia has reported four cases of meningococcal serogroup B disease in late 2025 and early 2026, with no links between them.
Health officials say this does not indicate an outbreak, as 2025 saw 13 invasive cases—12 serogroup B and one serogroup Y—resulting in one death.
Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, rash, and confusion, with rapid progression requiring immediate medical care.
Two vaccines are available: MenACWY, free for children at 12 months and Year 10 students, and MenB, free for Aboriginal children under two and those with certain medical conditions.
Others pay $320–$350 for MenB.
The bacteria spread via respiratory droplets but are not easily transmitted.
