The European Commission has launched an in-depth investigation into China’s Goldwind, a wind turbine manufacturer, over potential foreign subsidies from the Chinese government that may have given it an unfair advantage in the EU market. The probe, based on the EU’s Foreign Subsidies Regulation, aims to assess whether state support like grants or tax breaks distorted competition. The investigation, initiated in April 2024, could lead to corrective measures or penalties, with a decision expected by autumn 2027. Goldwind has not commented. The move reflects broader EU efforts to counter perceived market distortions from state-backed foreign firms, particularly in clean energy, and follows similar scrutiny of Chinese companies in solar, rail, and electric vehicles.
