Egypt uses Turkish drones near Sudan border, escalating its role in the war.
Egypt has deployed Turkish-made Bayraktar Akinci drones to a remote airstrip near its Sudan border, marking a significant escalation in its involvement in Sudan’s civil war.
Satellite imagery and regional officials confirm the drones, capable of long-range strikes and 24-hour flights, have been used to target Rapid Support Forces (RSF) convoys and positions since late 2024.
While Egypt has not officially confirmed operations, the move signals a shift from logistical support to direct military action, driven by concerns over regional instability and Sudan’s territorial integrity.
The RSF has accused Egypt of airstrikes, and at least four drones have been shot down.
The conflict, now in its third year, has caused tens of thousands of deaths, displaced millions, and drawn in multiple foreign powers including Turkey, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.
