Ed Martin, a Trump ally, is leaving the Justice Department after being sidelined from a key anti-prosecution review group.
Ed Martin, a Trump loyalist and former pardon attorney, is expected to leave the Justice Department after about nine months, according to CNN.
He was removed from leading the Weaponization Working Group, established to review federal prosecutions of Trump’s political opponents, despite being appointed to the role after his Senate confirmation as U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C., was withdrawn.
Sources say Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche limited Martin’s authority, with others taking over the group’s work.
Martin remains as pardon attorney, reviewing clemency applications, but final decisions are made by the White House.
