California employers must give annual workplace rights notices and allow emergency contacts by March 30, 2026, or face daily fines.
As of February 1, 2026, California employers must provide all employees with an annual written notice outlining key workplace rights, including protections during immigration inspections, unionization, workers’ compensation, and constitutional rights.
The notice, available in multiple languages including English and Spanish, must be delivered in the employee’s primary language and updated yearly.
Employers must also allow employees to designate an emergency contact by March 30, 2026, and notify them if the employee is arrested or detained at work.
Noncompliance may result in fines up to $500 per employee per day, capped at $10,000 per employee.
Employers must keep records of delivery and use the official template to reduce risk.
The law reinforces existing rights and does not create new ones.
