BYD unveils next-gen chargers offering 400km range in 5 minutes, up to 1500kW, surpassing current global standards.
BYD has revealed plans for next-generation charging stations capable of delivering over 400km of range in five minutes, supporting up to 1500kW and 1000 volts—marking a major leap beyond current global standards.
This follows earlier 1MW chargers introduced in 2025.
While Australia’s public chargers max out at 350kW or 400kW due to power supply limits, China has rapidly expanded its infrastructure, reaching 20 million charging plugs by 2025 and planning 15,000 MW-level stations by 2027, including a 258-charger hub in Shenzhen.
BYD’s upcoming EVs, including a potential all-electric Sealion 8, may support these speeds as part of its goal to become a top-three automaker globally by 2026.
The company does not currently sell charging hardware in Australia, where Tesla’s V4 chargers in China reach 500kW.
