Barry Trotz, 63, will retire as Predators GM after 2026-27 season, staying on as adviser.
Barry Trotz, 63, has announced he will retire as Nashville Predators general manager at the end of the 2026-27 season, though he will remain with the team as an adviser during the search for his successor.
He took over the role in July 2023 after David Poile’s retirement, leading the team to a playoff berth in 2023-24 but facing struggles in subsequent seasons despite a $100 million free agency spending spree.
The Predators missed the playoffs in 2024-25 and are currently in contention for a wild-card spot in 2025-26.
Trotz, a Hall of Fame-caliber coach who led the Washington Capitals to a Stanley Cup in 2018, emphasized his decision was personal, not tied to performance or ownership.
He will continue advising the team until a new GM is named.
