Akhilesh Yadav, a leader of the Samajwadi Party, claimed that the BJP-led government had betrayed Indian farmers by promoting the Seeds Bill and opening agricultural markets to American imports, both of which were detrimental to farming livelihoods. He asserted that the policies facilitate exploitation through middlemen and land acquisition, endanger food security, and benefit corporate interests. Yadav claimed that the BJP is essentially anti-farmer and denounced the way the government treats farmers, including the lack of fertilizer, and called for the trade agreement and the bill to be reversed. In pre-legislative consultation, the Seeds Bill seeks to protect farmers' rights to store and sell seeds while enhancing seed quality through registration, labeling, and digital tracking.
