World Bank President Ajay Banga arrived in Pakistan on February 1, 2026, for a four-day visit to support the 10-year Country Partnership Framework, under which the World Bank plans to provide up to $20 billion in aid by 2035.
He met with top officials, including the Prime Minister and Finance Minister, to discuss economic reforms, water disputes with India, and the Multiphase Programmatic Approach, a $1.35 billion initiative to boost fiscal stability and public services.
Banga visited Gurdwara Sri Panja Sahib in Hasan Abdal, where he participated in religious rituals and received a Siropa from the Sikh community, highlighting interfaith harmony.
He also toured the Taxila Museum and plans to visit his parents’ ancestral village in Khushab.
The visit underscores continued international support for Pakistan’s development and reform efforts amid ongoing economic challenges.
