Venezuelan activist Javier Tarazona was released Feb. 1, 2026, after over four years in prison, part of an amnesty following Maduro's ouster.
Venezuelan human rights activist Javier Tarazona was released on February 1, 2026, after more than four years in prison at the Helicoide facility, where he was held on charges including terrorism and treason.
After U.S. military action overthrew former President Nicolás Maduro in January, interim President Delcy Rodriguez declared a wider amnesty that included his release.
Along with 310 other political prisoners, Tarazona, director of the rights organization Fundaredes, was released; however, rights organizations report that more than 700 people are still in custody.
Although human rights advocates claim the pace of releases is still too slow, his release was viewed as a step toward political reform and coincided with the reopening of the U.S. diplomatic mission in Caracas.
El activista venezolano Javier Tarazona fue liberado el 1 de febrero de 2026, después de más de cuatro años en prisión, como parte de una amnistía tras la destitución de Maduro.
