A trainee prison officer in Edinburgh, David Toshack, was dismissed during his final week of training after refusing to use pronouns for transgender prisoners, according to an ongoing employment tribunal. The security firm GEOAmey said he failed probation for not following company policy, citing safety concerns, including a prior incident where a transgender prisoner assaulted an officer after seeing incorrect pronouns. Toshack’s advocate questioned the swift dismissal and said he believed using incorrect pronouns amounted to lying. The case continues before employment judge Amanda Jones.
