Over 3,200 doctors and dentists have joined Bangladesh’s government health service after the 48th Special BCS (Health) exam, with 2,984 appointed as assistant medical surgeons and 279 as assistant dental surgeons.
The recruits, selected through a fully automated process, will be posted to rural upazila health complexes and union-level facilities within 10 days, including emergency medical officers for the first time.
The joining ceremony in Dhaka was attended by top officials, who credited the interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus for expanding healthcare access, filling vacant positions, and supporting married medical couples.
The move aims to address longstanding staffing shortages in primary and emergency care.
