Nosterfield Quarry in North Yorkshire will become a wetland wildlife haven by 2050, restoring habitat for over 200 bird species and supporting conservation efforts at nearby historic sites.
Nosterfield Quarry in North Yorkshire will be restored into a wetland wildlife haven by 2050 after quarrying ends in 2031, following a partnership between Tarmac and the Lower Ure Conservation Trust.
The project expands the existing Nosterfield Nature Reserve, supporting over 200 bird species, 20 butterfly species, and numerous plants.
It includes reedbed and fen habitat creation, a native plant nursery, and public access for walks and events.
The effort also aids conservation at nearby Thornborough Henges, now managed by English Heritage, and emphasizes long-term ecological and cultural stewardship.
