Nigeria will close Lagos' Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1 in March 2026 for a major N900 billion upgrade to fix power and infrastructure issues.
Nigeria’s Federal Airports Authority (FAAN) announced that Murtala Muhammed International Airport’s Terminal 1 in Lagos will close in March 2026 for a major rehabilitation and expansion project, part of a N900 billion infrastructure upgrade approved in August 2025.
The shutdown follows recurring power outages, including a recent weekend fault during a routine changeover that disrupted operations.
FAAN apologized for disruptions, attributing the outage to a primary power system fault and confirming swift restoration via backup systems.
The project aims to modernize the terminal, improve safety and reliability, and address long-standing infrastructure issues, with work already underway since September 2025.
