A fossilized dinosaur footprint discovered in 1958 in Brisbane’s Albion quarry has been confirmed as Australia’s oldest, dating back 230 million years.
Found by teenager Bruce Runnegar, the 18.5-centimeter print, preserved in sandstone used in Brisbane buildings, was identified through 3D modeling by University of Queensland paleontologist Anthony Romilio as belonging to a small, two-legged sauropodomorph.
The creature likely walked near a waterway during the Late Triassic period.
After being kept for over six decades, the fossil was donated to the Queensland Museum and is now part of ongoing research.
