A joint Egyptian-Chinese team found a sacred lake and religious artifacts near Karnak’s Maat Temple, revealing new insights into ancient rituals and temple design.
A joint Egyptian-Chinese team has discovered a previously unknown man-made sacred lake, over 50 square meters, west of the Maat Temple within Egypt’s Karnak Complex.
The find, along with dozens of cow jaws, reused stone blocks from Late Period rulers, and three chapels dedicated to Osiris featuring statuettes and fragments tied to the divine adoratrice, sheds new light on ancient religious rituals and temple design.
The discoveries, announced January 24, reflect growing scientific collaboration between Egypt and China.
