Germany and Saudi Arabia to export green ammonia from Yanbu to Rostock by 2030 for renewable hydrogen use.
Germany and Saudi Arabia have signed a memorandum of understanding to export green ammonia from Saudi Arabia’s Yanbu port to Germany’s Rostock port, enabling the transport of renewable hydrogen.
The ammonia, produced using solar and wind power, will be converted back into hydrogen in Germany using technology developed by VNG.
The project, involving ACWA Power, EnBW, and the port of Rostock, aims to support Germany’s climate goals and Saudi Arabia’s economic diversification.
The production facility in Yanbu is expected to begin operations in 2030.
