Former Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema, who left office in January 2025, made nearly $9,000 in payments to Matthew J. Ammel, a former security guard accused by his estranged wife of having an affair with Sinema, through her campaign committee in October 2025.
The payments were part of over $128,000 in disbursements to Ammel between July 2024 and October 2025, including travel, lodging, meals, health services, and concert tickets.
The committee, now shut down, refunded nearly $600,000 to donors and spent about $200,000 on other costs between October and December 2025.
Heather Ammel sued Sinema in North Carolina, alleging she damaged their marriage, encouraged drug use including psychedelics, and engaged in a relationship while aware of the marriage.
Sinema, now an independent and lobbyist at Hogan Lovells, has not commented on the allegations.
