The family of murdered Emma Caldwell meets Lord Scott to review flaws in the 2005 investigation, following Iain Packer’s 2024 conviction after nearly 20 years.
The family of Emma Caldwell, murdered in 2005, will meet Lord Scott KC, chair of an independent public inquiry into the investigation of her death, in Glasgow.
The inquiry examines how Strathclyde Police and the Crown Office handled the case, following Iain Packer’s 2024 conviction for her murder and 33 other charges, including rape and sexual assaults.
Packer was not arrested until nearly two decades after Caldwell went missing.
Police Scotland, which replaced Strathclyde Police in 2013, is not part of the inquiry’s scope, though it has apologized for flaws in the original investigation.
Caldwell’s body was found in Limefield Woods, South Lanarkshire, in May 2005, over a month after she disappeared from Glasgow.
Lord Scott emphasized the inquiry’s impartiality and commitment to following the evidence without bias.
