A Montgomery County Sheriff's deputy was dragged by a vehicle in Charleston on Saturday evening while trying to remove Stephanie R. Ferris, 41, from her car after she passed out behind the wheel on Route 30A. The deputy, injured but conscious, continued pursuit and located Ferris after her car crashed into a guide rail. She fled on foot briefly before being arrested. Authorities found over 34 grams of crack cocaine and two amphetamine pills on her. Ferris was charged with multiple felonies, including drug possession and reckless endangerment, and ordered held without bail. Both Ferris and the deputy were treated at St. Mary’s Hospital and released. Assistance came from Montgomery County EMS, New York State Police, and local fire departments.
