Bareilly magistrate demands repeal of India’s SC/ST Act by Feb. 6, threatening protest if denied.
On February 2, 2026, suspended Bareilly City Magistrate Alankar Agnihotri demanded the repeal of India’s SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act by February 6, warning that failure to comply would lead to the removal of the central government.
Speaking in Varanasi, he accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of undermining Uttar Pradesh’s administration and diverting state funds to Gujarat.
Agnihotri claimed the Act is misused, particularly in education under new UGC regulations, leading to caste-based targeting, loss of livelihood, and mental health crises.
He denied targeting the state government, said the Supreme Court’s stay of the UGC rules highlights broader concerns, and threatened a Delhi protest starting February 7 if demands are unmet.
El magistrado de Bareilly exige la revocación de la Ley SC/ST de la India para el 6 de febrero, amenazando con protestar si se le niega.
